Where does that make me a bad person? Where did I say I dislike poor people? And why am I the if I want people to take a book, leave a book instead of take all the books, sell the books? Someone in here called HPB’s payments an insult, and I agree - I’d rather donate to the local library and let them get a buck off the book at their next sale. People donate to the LFL rather than sell the book to Half Price Books for a meager pittance. People that love to read would rather donate their books to a new audience than let the book gather dust. The Little Free Library is a cool idea that caught on amongst book readers. From now on I plan on donating directly to my local library.ĮDIT: To everyone that thinks I’m in the wrong for complaining about people that are selling the donated books for a meager profit, and don’t respect the simple “Take a book, leave a book” guidelines of the Little Free Library. It’s a shame to see people take advantage of what is a great idea, in order to get a little extra money for themselves. In the past if I saw the LFL was empty, I’d walk over with a bag of hardcovers to fill it back up, and within a week the box would be empty again. It was an old hardcover copy of a book on training puppies that I’ve had for 30 years, and obscure enough that I’m positive is the same one I donated. I’ve been growing suspicious of my Little Free Library being used by others in the neighborhood as a way to take books and sell to the local Half Price Books, and today I found a book that I donated to the LFL on the shelf at HPB.
